Dopo la tragica morte del contrabbassista Scott LaFaro in un incidente d'auto nel Luglio del 1961, Bill Evans era devastato e non si sentiva in grado di formare un nuovo trio stabile. Non a caso la formazione che si può apprezzare in questo straordinario album del 1962, con Chuck Israels al contrabbasso e Paul Motian alla batteria, rappresenta appunto una formazione di passaggio nella carriera del pianista. All'album How My Heart Sings! (Riverside RLP9473) è stata aggiunta l'alternate take di In Your Own Sweet Way registrata nel Corso della stessa session, ma non inclusa nell'Lp originale
