Su vinile da 180 grammi, la serie di LP si concentra sul lato più funky delletichetta Blue Note, quindi sul percorso che portò dal soul jazz a quelle incisioni che fondendo jazz e rnb arrivarono a creare una musica crossover che segnò unepoca.Registrato presso gli A&M Studios nel 1972, ETHIOPIAN KNIGHTS è considerato il più classico fra gli album jazz/funk del noto trombettista. La formazione è una vera all-star band: oltre al leader figurano i due Crusaders Joe Sample (tastiere) e Wilton Felder (basso) ai quali si aggiungono Bobby Hutcherson (vibrafono), Harold Land (sax tenore), David T Walker (chitarra) e Ed Greene (batteria).
