Questo LP da contiene alcune tracce tratte dalle registrazioni del 1961 al Village Vanguard del trio di Bill Evans. Questa registrazione rappresenta anche lultima esibizione del gruppo formato da Bill Evans al piano, Paul Motian alla batteria e Scott LaFaro al basso. Questultimo sarebbe infatti scomparso poco dopo in un incidente stradale, il 6 luglio 1961 all'età di soli 25 anni. La sinergia che univa il trio Evans-LaFaro-Motian si era già evidenziata in altri precedenti lavori (Portrait in Jazz e Explorations), ma si rafforza nellesibizione al Village Vanguard. Un connubio speciale rotto dopo la scomparsa di LaFaro, che indusse Evans ad una lunga pausa prima di formare un nuovo trio. Un altro brano tratto dalla stessa sessione, ma non presente sullalbum originale, è stato aggiunto come bonus.
