Condotto per numerosi reati davanti al tribunale di un paese della Lousiana, John fugge dall'aula uccidendo un poliziotto e portando con sé come ostaggio Sarah, la figlia di un magnate del petrolio. Riuscito a sottrarsi alla fuga, John viene arrestato da un ex poliziotto, che dietro il versamento di una cifra in denaro lo consegna alla madre di Sarah. Il petroliere promette a John di non farlo arrestare se lo aiuterà a recuperare un tesoro custodito a bordo di un aereo finito in fondo al mare.
