Un giovane veterinario conduce una vita tranquilla in una cittadina del Sud. Una notte assiste ad un omicidio a scopo camorristico. Incapace di vivere nel silenzio di un'omertà oltraggiosa decide di rivelare ciò che ha visto. Da quel momento inizierà per lui e la sua famiglia un calvario senza fine. Braccati dai camorristi, dimenticati dalle autorità, affronteranno il grande limite dello Stato nei confronti degli onesti cittadini che hanno scelto di non nascondere più la testa sotto la sabbia e scoprendo la grandezza della dignità di essere liberi.
