Nella seconda metà dell'Ottocento il dramma della schiavitù dei neri divide gli Stati Uniti. In questo contesto due giovani ufficiali di West Point, Jeb Stuart e George Armstrong Custer, si troveranno insieme nella caccia a John Brown, leader della rivolta antischiavista, che verrà impiccato dopo la cattura.
