Negli anni '80 Sam Brenner, Will Cooper, Ludlow Lamonsoff e Eddie "The Fire Blaster" Plant erano ragazzi che, nelle sale giochi, salvavano il mondo, migliaia di volte, a 25 centesimi a partita. Ora dovranno farlo nella realtà, quando alieni intergalattici fraintendono un filmato diffuso con alcuni personaggi dei classici videogames, interpretando le loro parole come una dichiarazione di guerra contro di loro, e decidono di attaccare la Terra usando i giochi come modelli per i loro assalti.
