Nel 1939, a Chicago, la notte in cui la network radiofonico WBN inizia a trasmettere nelle frequenze americane, il regista dello show e uno dei musicisti vengono trovati morti. Sono stati entrambi assassinati. Roger Henderson (Benben) è il capo sceneggiatore e la moglie Penny, segretaria del regista, deve avere a che fare con uno sponsor insoddisfatto, un capo autoritario e un quasi ex-marito, Roger, che la rivuole disperatamente. Come iniziano le trasmissioni, una voce misteriosa irrompe nella messa in onda e improvvisamente alcuni membri del cast muoiono. Roger deve trovare il colpevole, mentre la polizia cerca di catturarlo tra le mura della WBN.
