Bill, affermato scrittore, perde la vista in seguito ad un incidente d’auto, nel quale tragicamente muore anche sua moglie. Diversi anni dopo ritroviamo l’uomo perseguitato dalla sofferenza e dai sensi di colpa, ormai un accademico trasandato che trascorre le sue giornate in un gruppo di supporto per non vedenti. La sua amara routine viene sconvolta dall’arrivo nel centro, come volontaria, di Suzanne, moglie trascurata dal marito/uomo d’affari corrotto.
