La Sindrome di degenerazione neurologica sta devastando la Terra e tutta l'umanità rischia l'estinzione se non verrà trovata una cura al più presto. Una speranza viene da Absolon, una medicina ricavata da una pianta della foresta amazzonica. Questo farmaco, oltre ad essere introvabile a causa dello sfruttamento della foresta pluviale da parte dell'uomo, è anche estremamente caro e quindi appannaggio di pochissime persone. Inaspettatamente, il medico che ha scoperto Absolon muore in circostanze misteriose e il detective Norman Scott è incaricato di indagare.
