Il leader della band Tuomas Holopainen una volta ha dichiarato che quando crea un nuovo album intende catturare qualcosa di raro e unico, un monumento e un album che rappresenti una vera esperienza. Nel 2020 è certo di raggiungere nuovamente il suo obiettivo. I NIGHTWISH hanno completato le registrazioni del loro nono album in studio. HUMAN. :II: NATURE. che sarà pubblicato il 10 aprile 2020 su Nuclear Blast. Lattesissimo album, successore dellacclamatissimo Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015), sarà un doppio album contenente nove tracce sul CD principale e un lungo brano diviso in otto capitoli sul secondo CD. HUMAN. :II: NATURE. è stato registrato tra agosto e ottobre 2019 presso il campeggio Röskö, i Petrax Studios e il castello di Troykington, oltre che ai Finnvox Studios, da Tero Kinnunen, Mikko Karmila e Troy Donockley. Il mixaggio è opera di Mikko Karmila ai Finnvox, con Tuomas Holopainen e Tero Kinnunen. Della masterizzazione si è occupato Mika Jussila ai Finnvox.
