Steve Gibbonsera stato una figura della scena di Birmingham fin dai primi anni '60 ed era statoun frontman del gruppo The Uglys fino al loro scioglimento alla fine del 1968. Nel1969 Gibbons fondo il gruppo Balls con Trevor Burton e Denny Laine, ma quel gruppo si sciolse entro 14 mesi prima cheGibbons si unisse all'ultima incarnazione di The Idle Race nel 1971. Questa formazione, che comprendeva anchecaratterizzato da Dave Carroll e Bob Wilson alle chitarre e Bob Lamb alla batteria alla fine si evolse in The SteveGibbons Band con l'arrivo di Trevor Burton al basso e alla voce.
