Registrato durante il secondo ritorno di Zevon negli anni 1991-1995, Mutineer è il nono album in studio del neo-inserito nella Rock N\' Roll Hall of Fame, pubblicato nel 1995. Presenta uno stile minimalista, registrato in casa, e include brani straordinari come Mutineer e Seminole Bingo. La traccia che dà il titolo all\'album fu poi eseguita da Bob Dylan come tributo, a sottolineare la sua influenza duratura. L\'album riflette il passaggio di Zevon verso un maggiore controllo creativo e un sound più intimo. Questa è la prima uscita mondiale indipendente su vinile ed è masterizzata direttamente da nastri stereo analogici da Bernie Grundman.
