Questa sessione del 1957 vede i sassofonisti John Coltrane e Paul Quinichette affiancati da Mal Waldron al piano, Julian Euell al contrabasso e Ed Thigpen alla batteria. Waldron, che firma tutti i brani originali dell'album, si dimostra il perfetto compositore e accompagnatore per Coltrane, mentre Sunday esemplifica perché Quinichette è stato considerato come un grande erede di Lester Young.Questo LP presenta l'album originale del 1956 Chet Baker Big Band (Pacific Jazz PJ-1229), che ha segnato una delle rare occasioni in cui Chet Baker ha guidato una big band, sebbene le formazioni che si alternano su questa registrazione vanno dai 9 agli 11 elementi.
