Nato a Southwark (Londra) il 14 settembre 1985, si interessa dapprima al drum and bass e al garage, iniziando a suonare la batteria e la tromba. Nei primi tempi adotta lo pseudonimo Alexander G. Muertos, mentre nel 2010 sceglie il nome d'arte Alex Clare. Nel luglio 2011 pubblica il suo album di debutto The Lateness of the Hour, prodotto da Mike Spencer e Major Lazer,. Il suo brano Too Close viene inserito negli avvisi del programma Internet Explorer 9 e grazie a questo entra in classifica. Inoltre il singolo ottiene una nomination ai BRIT Awards 2013 nella categoria "singolo britannico dell'anno.
