1973. L’Uruguay è sotto il controllo di una dittatura militare. Una notte di autunno, tre prigionieri Tupamaro vengono portati via dalle loro celle nell’ambito di un’operazione militare segreta. L’ordine è chiaro: “Visto che non possiamo ammazzarli, li condurremo alla pazzia.” Itre uomini resteranno in isolamento per 12 anni.
