Megan Leavey è una giovane marine dell’unità artificieri partita per il fronte in Iraq con il suo cane Rex. Il fortissimo legame tra Megan e Rex, addestrato per affrontare i combattimenti accanto a lei, permette ai due di portare a termine più di 100 missioni salvando molte vite umane. Quando entrambi restano feriti in seguito ad una brutta esplosione, Megan è costretta a congedarsi e, Rex rischia di essere soppresso. Tornata alla vita da civile, la coraggiosa caporale, farà di tutto per riunirsi all’animale.
