Compilation - Wattstax 1972 The Complete Concert

WATTSTAX fu un evento di beneficenza organizzato dalla iconica Stax Records in concomitanza con il Watt Summer Festival per commemorare il settimo anniversario dei disordini di Watts del 1965 a Los Angeles. Con un pubblico di piu di 100.000 persone e una durata di 7 ore, lincredibile concerto principale ebbe luogo al Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum il 20 agosto 1972 allinsegna di Soul, Funk e Gospel. In prima linea erano i piu grandi artisti della Stax: Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, Rufus Thomas, Johnnie Taylor, i Bar-Kays, Albert King e molti altri. Il reverendo Jesse Jackson apri l\'evento con suo discorso memorabile. Un estratto del concerto vide la luce in due doppi LP pochi mesi dopo levento, che vendettero in breve piu di 500.000 copie. Nel 1973 segui il film-concerto diretto da Mel Stuart \'Wattstax\'. Oggi Stax Records presenta la versione piu completa mai apparsa (integrale del concerto e delle performance collaterali, in primis al Summit Club, ma anche in esterni, compresa una stazione ferroviaria), lintegrale del concerto al Memorial Coliseum la ristampa dei due storici doppi LP e un CD riassuntivo con il Best of.
