L'ottavo album in studio dei My Morning Jacket arriva a 5 anni di distanza da The Waterfall. The Waterfall II raccoglie diversi brani registrati nel 2013 e 2014 insieme ai dieci che poi hanno fatto parte del primo capitolo, recuperati e rielaborati durante i mesi di stop forzato causa pandemia. Era cosa nota che quelle session passate in buona parte ai Panoramic House Studios di Stinson Beach (California) e completate tra Oregon e Kentucky con il produttore Tucker Martine fossero state particolarmente feconde e fortunate, l'idea poi accantonata infatti era quella di pubblicare un triplo album.
