Peterson Oscar - Oscar Peterson Plays Cole Porter
Nato in Canada, Oscar Peterson è stato convinto da Norman Granz a recarsi negli Stati Uniti, dove divenne uno dei musicisti più i presenti della sua carovana, sia per quanto riguarda le registrazioni in studio sia nei tour del Jazz at the Philharmonic. Peterson ha registrato come accompagnatore per molte altre stelle e anche come leader del suo trio. Mentre i suoi più noti songbook furono realizzati nel 1959 con il suo trio con Ray Brown al basso e Ed Thigpen alla batteria, aveva realizzato una serie di songbook agli inizi degli anni Cinquanta quando il suo trio includeva la chitarra (Barney Kessel o Herb Ellis) invece della batteria. Il disco dedicato a Cole Porter qui proposto vede la partecipazione di Kessel e appartiene a una serie di lunghe sessioni registrate tra novembre e dicembre 1952. Come bonus è stata aggiunta una versione di Easy to Love registrata in duo da Oscar Peterson e Ray Brown.
