L?emarginazione sociale e la tossicodipendenza hanno privato troppo presto il mondo della musica di un vero genio: Fats Navarro e stato uno dei piu grandi creatori del jazz in assoluto, e contribui insieme a Dizzy Gillespie a forgiare il linguaggio della tromba bebop. Ma scomparve nel 1950, a 27 anni non compiuti. Ci restano queste sue incisioni straordinarie, di cui fece tesoro Clifford Brown (altro sfortunato?), realizzate tra il 1947 e ?49 in compagnia dei gruppi di Bud Powell, di Tadd Dameron e del collega Howard McGhee. Bastarono a farlo entrare nel mito.
