Queste incisioni del 1958 segnarono l'inizio del suo successo del grande pianista Ahmad Jamal. L'album originale But Not for Me, registrato presso il Pershing Lounge di Chicago il 16 e 17 Gennaio del 1958, comprendeva otto dei 43 brani suonati dal trio, accuratamente selezionati dallo stesso pianista. Due anni dopo, il successo dell'album convinse i produttori a pubblicare altri undici brani che sono stati scelti ancora una volta sotto la supervisione di Jamal. Si ritiene che il materiale non utilizzato sia stato messo da parte e successivamente sia andato perso.
