I Crunt nascono nel 1993 come una sorta di supergruppo indie rock e il loro album di debutto del 1994 viene pubblicizzato da Eddie Vedder dei Pearl Jam. I membri dei Crunt erano il chitarrista/vocalista Stuart Gray (alias Stu Spasm) e la bassista/vocalista Kat Bjelland. Gray era gia noto in Australia all\'inizio dei Crunt per il suo passato nei gruppi Salamander Jim e per il punk rock a base di corno e chitarra dei Lubricated Goat, di cui faceva parte il batterista Martin Bland, che in seguito avrebbe suonato nei Monkeywrench. Per quanto riguarda la Bjelland, e stata la frontwoman/chitarrista dei Babes in Toyland, band del Minnesota. Crunt era completato dal batterista Russell Simins, che era il batterista a tempo pieno della Jon Spencer Blues Explosion di New York.
