A Grape Dope è il nome darte di John Herndon, batterista, produttore musicale e membro fondatore del gruppo Tortoise. La sua discografia include registrazioni con Isotope 217, Five Style, Starlicker, Exploding Star Orchestra, Pulsar Quartet, Poster Children e molti altri. Il disco solista di debutto di Herndon, Backyard Bangers, è la fusione di molte influenze eclettiche. è un album impossibile da catalogare. Backyard Bangers miscela esplosioni di ritmi hip-hop sperimentali, ritmi house, sonorizzazioni ambientali e ricche atmosfere synth in un viaggio musicale conciso e colorato di 32 minuti.
