Il cavalier Torquato Pezzella è proprietario di un avviato negozio di abbigliamento. Con l'aiuto di uno strampalato consigliere fiscale, il rag. Curto, egli crede di aver trovato il sistema per evadere il fisco. Tutto va bene fino al giorno in cui giunge al negozio il maresciallo Topponi della polizia tributaria per un accertamento... da questo momento iniziano i più goffi tentativi del commerciante per accattivarsi la complice benevolenza del maresciallo. Ma Topponi è incorruttibile!
