La storia è ambientata in una città circondata interamente da un muro alto 4.000 metri. Poiché la città è piena di camini, l'aria è sempre piena di fumo e nessuno sa com'è il cielo. Nella notte di Halloween, nel festival cittadino, un fattorino lascia cadere accidentalmente il cuore che dovrebbe consegnare e dopo averlo cercato invano si arrende.
