Robert Steves è un importante uomo d'affari che, per le ricchezze accumulate, è diventato praticamente padrone della cittadina in cui vive. L'uomo non ha occhi che per la figlia Claire dalla quale pretende la stessa determinazione a farsi largo nel mondo degli affari. La ragazza, segretamente innamorata di Eddie, figlio di un noto malavitoso, scompare misteriosamente. Robert è disposto a pagare un ingente riscatto e così ritrova la figlia in stato di choc. Eddie ed altri due ragazzi vengono accusati del rapimento ma tutti e tre chiamano in causa Claire.L'FBI indaga.
