A causa degli strani segni esoterici incisi intorno all'uomo rinvenuto in un monastero in Lorena, per il commissario Niemans questi non sarebbe una vittima come le altre. Da qui parte l'inchiesta narrata nel film. Il commissario è affiancato questa volta da un capitano di polizia, Reda, suo ex allievo. I due poliziotti iniziano a collaborare quando Reda scopre il sosia di Cristo mezzo morto davanti ad una chiesa. Inizialmente ritiene di aver salvato un esaltato da morte certa, ma poi si rende conto che il suo caso, per qualche strano motivo, è strettamente legato a quello di Niemans. Nel frattempo le morti non si fermano.
