Il grande batterista Joe Chambers è stato una presenza forte su molti degli album più progressive dei Blue Note della metà degli anni Sessanta, tra cui Adam's Apple di Wayne Shorter, Components di Bobby Hutcherson, Breaking Point di Freddie Hubbard, Mode for Joe di Joe Henderson, Tender Moments di McCoy Tyner e molti altri. Tuttavia, è stato solo nel 1998 che Chambers ha fatto il suo debutto come leader con il suo album Mirrors.
