Paul Kemp è un giornalista free lance bevitore a tempo pieno che si trasferisce a Puerto Rico per scrivere per The San Juan Star, il quotidiano locale. Una notte Kemp incontra Chenault, la sensuale fidanzata di Sanderson, un uomo d'affari corrotto e ricchissimo. Sanderson chiede a Kemp di scrivere articoli che sostengano i suoi progetti di speculazione edilizia.
