Will Smith interpreta Nicky, esperto maestro nel depistaggio, che si ritrova coinvolto sentimentalmente con un’aspirante criminale, Jess (Margot Robbie). Mentre Nicky cerca di insegnarle i trucchi del mestiere, il rapporto tra i due diventa molto intimo, col risultato che Jess viene allontanata brutalmente.
