La fantapolitica espressa dalla cinepresa di François Truffaut segue un vigile del fuoco, Guy Montag (Oskar Werner), alle prese con migliaia di libri da bruciare obbedendo agli ordini di un capitanato dispotico, intenzionato a mantenere il controllo totale sulla popolazione privandola del libero pensiero attraverso l'annientamento della fruizione culturale.
