Russell Hammond è un adolescente aspirante giornalista. Un giorno si trova a dover intervistare il gruppo musicale degli 'Stillwater' per conto della rivista Rolling Stone. Per evitare le asfissianti attenzioni della madre, piuttosto apprensiva, decide di partire al seguito della band. E' la storia autobiografica del regista che ha iniziato come giornalista musicale.
